Yume

When I first ate at Yume, I had originally planned to visit a different sushi place nearby, with three friends. In hindsight, that place was luckily closed and so we discovered the brilliant little restaurant of Yume. It’s tucked away at the bottom of Cotham Hill and boasts a fresh minimalist interior. The dining area is quite small but thanks to the subtle decor it doesn’t feel one bit crowded.

The staff were really friendly and were happy to help our group decide which tea we each wanted to go for. In due course, our drinks were brought out and I was pleasantly surprised. I am not usually a big tea drinker but recently I have had it a lot more often, no doubt due to excellent experiences such as this one.

Given that I was with a group we decided to go for a sharing platter and then enjoy our own individual dishes on the side. It took a little bit of time for the food to be brought out but we had several refills of our drinks in the meantime. I was already conscious that I would be spending £10 on tea alone. When the food did arrive it was well worth the wait. The sushi was absolutely delicious, the sashimi so tender, the rainbow rolls bursting with flavour. We had enough for the group of us but I could have easily eaten more, not for a lack of being full but because it was so tasty. The cosy surroundings of the restaurant really added to the overall experience of the meal and I thoroughly enjoyed it.

I was pleasantly surprised when the bill came to learn that all of our tea refills were free and you only pay for the initial cup! I have found that sushi is never a cheap meal (not that you necessarily would want it to be) but I found Yume’s pricing to be very reasonable. Plus if you have a restaurant card, such as the one that Gourmet Society offer, then you can get 25% off the bill any day other than Saturday.

Overall I would highly recommend this quaint Japanese restaurant. Even if you don’t like sushi there are plenty of noodle based meals to try. My friend had one and she really enjoyed it. Writing this article made me want to go again and I definitely will in the near future.
