Chandos Fish Bar

The local chippie. Quite humble in my opinion, given that it neighbours some much more expensive Michelin star restaurants. There are the classic options of cod, haddock, battered sausages etc. but also a nice £5 meal deal with a good selection of choices.

I have actually been here a few times. Firstly I opted for my go-to; large cod & chips with curry sauce on the side. As an advocate of big portions, the large cod did not disappoint. It filled the box nicely as it lay over the chips, their warmth softening up the underside of the batter. It tasted great too, lots of flavour and the batter was perfect. Unfortunately, the chips weren’t quite on par as they lacked flavour and tasted like generic microwavable counterparts. Their saving grace of course, was the curry sauce. Every single time I get a side of curry sauce it enhances the meal it comes with. This was no different and thanks to it, I enjoyed each chip.

On other occasions I have enjoyed the £5 deal, the chips were very much the same but the overall meal is satisfying enough when you fancy some chicken nuggets and chips.

To summarise, I don’t think this eatery is worth going too far out of your way to visit. That being said, I do like the Chandos Fish bar and if you’re in the area I would definitely recommend stopping by.
